Another delay as CalMac announce MV Finlaggan held in annual maintenance – West Coast Today

CalMac has announced that MV Finlaggan, which serves Islay, has been delayed in annual maintenance and is now due to return to service on Saturday May 18.

The ferry was originally supposed to return to the Kennacraig – Port Ellen/Port Askaig route from Wednesday May 15.

A reason for the delay has not been given.

The ferry network has been especially stretched recently as CalMac has been delivering fuel to Uist and Barra after the pier usually used for fuel deliveries was condemned.

CalMac had hoped to redeploy MV Isle of Mull from the South Uist service to support Mull and operate via Oban-Craignure, but this is not possible without MV Finlaggan due to the vital need for supplies on Uist and Barra.

CalMac says it is “exploring options” to add extra capacity to Mull’s service before MV Finlaggan returns.
