A council-run children’s nursery in Ayr has been panned following a spot check by the Care Inspectorate.

Braehead Early Years Centre, based within Braehead Primary School, was graded ‘weak’ across four quality indicators.

The ‘weak’ grading is the second lowest grade possible. The nursery’s care provision was described as having “significant weaknesses.”

Because those weaknesses concerned the welfare and safety of children, The Care Inspectorate were forced to issue “requirements for improvement.”

Now the provider, South Ayrshire Council, has been told to make a “comprehensive intervention” in order to “address the issues raised during the inspection.”

The service in Gould Street is registered to provide day care to a maximum of 58 children, aged two to not yet of an age to attend primary school.
