A CANCER patient was forced to use her life savings to fund a vital operation privately after being told there was a 12-week wait on the NHS.

Mags McCaul was diagnosed with stage 3c high-grade serous ovarian cancer in August last year after experiencing bloating and abdominal pain.

The 50-year-old, from Wishaw, completed four sessions of chemotherapy in order to be suitable for surgery, but was informed she had a 12-week wait.

Mags then used her savings to fly to England after being unable to find a private surgery spot in Scotland.

Following her surgery and further chemotherapy, Mags has been told there is no evidence of disease however she still lives with anxiety over it potentially returning.

She said: “Although my last scan in February shows no evidence of disease, I know it’s not over yet and I am far from okay.
