Scotland’s transport minister has admitted she is fearful to travel alone on late night trains, as she pledges to toughen security on Scotrail services.

It comes after Jenny Gilruth previously recounted her experiences with ‘drunken men’ sitting next to her on the trains between commute from Edinburgh and Fife.

The minister said that when she tried to move she was ‘victimised’, and said the issue was a systematic problem across Scotland’s public transport network.

She revealed to the Times: “I won’t do it again after doing it at Christmas last year.

“It was scary and I’m nearly 40 and quite able to look after myself.
