Specialist drug cops have launched a major probe at a former Ayr toy store after a cannabis farm was discovered.
Officers raided the old Toy Town unit on Newmarket Street around 4pm on Tuesday where they discovered the illegal operation.
Almost 48 hours later police remain at the site with pictures from the scene showing forensics teams in white suits combing over evidence and removing items into a skip.
Stunned eyewitnesses have told how the cultivation has stunk out the main thoroughfare. One eyewitness said: “You can smell it all the way down to the High Street. There has been forensics down there this morning, they have been in and out the building carrying bags.”
The huge unit was once the popular Toy Town but it has lain empty for more than a decade.
Ambitious plans were launched in 2022 to turn it into an ‘art school’, but the building was put up for sale last year. Police say their investigations into the cannabis farm are ongoing.
