SCOTLAND’S first heroin ‘fix room’ could spark an influx of addicts, a city’s mayor has warned.
Rui Moreira told how a similar move led to a wave of users travelling to his city to use their centre while crimes surged in Portugal.
Residents and homes close to a drug jabs centre in Porto were robbed by desperate addicts while dealers targeted visitors.
And he claimed more injection hubs must be set up around the country before the first opens in Calton, Glasgow, next year.
Mr Moreira, 67, who has led the northern city for ten years, said: “Many users are not from Porto but since 2021 they’ve come here to take drugs. It’s important that surrounding towns and cities invest in similar facilities.
“Parents are afraid to send their kids to school because they find syringes in the playground.
