A poll has shown that ambulance delays have left one in three people to make their own way to hospital. The survey, carried out by Savanta, showed that a third of adults who said they have called for an ambulance in the last year for either themselves or a family member made their own way to hospital due to the lengthy waiting time.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats said the figures “reveal the horror of the ambulance crisis.” The poll of 2,093 people across the UK was carried out between March 24-26. It was commissioned by the Liberal Democrats.

Participants were asked if they had called 999 for an ambulance for either themselves or family members over the past twelve months. Some 34 per cent of those who said they had called for an ambulance in the last year for either themselves or a family member, said that they made their own way to hospital due to the lengthy waiting time.
