Labour MSP Monica Lennon has warned “it is only a matter of time” before a child will die in Scotland after the latest violent attack.
The Central Scotland representative has demanded the Scottish Government to take urgent action on tackling the disturbing levels of youth violence seen in recent months. Her calls come in response to the most recent incident in East Kilbride, which involved a ‘gang’ assault on a 14-year-old boy.
A disturbing video of the attack, which has circulating online, shows the teenager being punched on the head in the South Lanarkshire town’s Princes Mall on Sunday night. He can then be seen suffering multiple blows to his body as one youth repeatedly stamps on his head.
During the violence, the victim can be seen cowering on the floor as the assailants can be heard shouting and swearing. Officers investigating the incident say inquiries into catching the culprits remain ongoing.
