A Port Glasgow primary is facing another knife incident after a third young pupil was caught bringing a blade to the school.

St Francis’ Primary head teacher Jane Stinson moved quickly to alert all parents after an eight-year-old child was caught with the item earlier this week, the Tele can reveal.

In a letter sent out on the same day she said that all appropriate action had been taken to deal with the matter, but the incident has sparked concern.

Parents of both school and nursery-aged children were assured that no one was injured or threatened.

It follows incidents just over a year ago where parents were up in arms over education bosses’ failure to let them know that two pupils had been caught in possession of blades in quick succession.

One parent said: “This is now three times a pupil has been found with a knife in the same primary school.

“I think it is pretty clear that something needs to be done about it.”
