Upon leaving her altar of blunders, our great administrator-in-chief, Nicola Sturgeon, says she will scribble together a tome reflecting her time in office. Will it be a dystopian novel that covers her mishandling of care homes, education, drugs care, ferries fiasco, industry, NHS … actually everything she is in charge of? Or a fantasy about a delusional ruler who governs the universe by fear, deflection and denial? A couple of suggestions for the book’s title could be: Nicola in Blunderland or Nicola Through the Painted Windows. Eddie McNeill, Fauldhouse, West Lothian.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that many people, including SNP MPs and MSPs, are beginning to realise that Nicola Sturgeon’s dictatorship is heading for the rocks and taking Scotland with it. From the present shambolic situation with her Gen-der Reform bill and her dithering over transgender male lawbreakers being placed in women’s prisons, her pig-headed insistence on taking on the courts, costing the public purse fortunes it can ill afford, her failures to bring to fruition all her “Number one priorities”, and her tiresome predictable promises at party conference every year to bring independence to the faithful. Her total disdain toward those of us who refuse to take her word as final was made more obvious a few days ago with her disgusting description of critics and opponents of the GR bill. Another catastrophe we are all facing in August is the ill-thought-out bottle and can-return scheme. Let’s see how we get on with the “backward vending machines”. It may come to pass that Sturgeon’s own par-ty will dethrone her before the voter does but one way or another the whole SNP cabal has to be removed from power before Scotland sinks without trace. Ian Balloch, Grangemouth, Falkirk.
There was much publicity for and condemnation of the disgraceful placards waved at a demonstration more than a week ago inciting lethal violence: “decapitate TERFS” (“Police launch investigation into `Decapitate Terfs’ sign at pro-trans rally”, The Herald, January 23). I have seen no public statement announcing the arrest of the people responsible for that, although their identity was clearly visible in photographs of the event. Have there in fact been any arrests? No one seems to know. Strange things are happening in Scotland nowadays. But at least we are spared one disaster: had Scots voted to leave the UK, the Gender Recognition Reform Bill would now be law. Even Nicola Sturgeon has backtracked on provisions of that bill regarding the placing of male sex offenders in a women’s prison. She should be grateful that His Majesty’s Government has saved her from the monumental error that that bill perpetrates. Jill Stephenson, Edinburgh.
Our Scottish unemployment figures have never been lower but this conceals the true picture. When you include the vast numbers of “economically inactive” people who are not included, that would bring the unemployment level in Scotland up to nearly 15 per cent. Lies, damned lies and statistics. Dennis Forbes Grattan, Aberdeen.
