I witnessed the SNP Westminster leader being questioned on Ian Dale’s LBC show this week. Questions came from various parts of the UK and Flynn’s arrogant, sneezing attitude to those who were not of a similar political persuasion was utterly astonishing and shameful. In particular, when asked by a gentleman about how Scotland would defend itself if independent, his response was deplorable, sarcastic and contemptible. The 50 per cent or so in Scotland who support independence really need to take a long hard look at what Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP have done to our country. If this is the best we have as a politician, what a dreadful future Scotland has. Douglas Cowe, Newmachar, Aberdeenshire.
Scotland Matters has organised a “stunt” in the next week. We are keeping the details secret so as not to alert the SNP or their followers but it will be reported on social media and hopefully in the press. CAN YOU HELP US?? CLICK HERE
It is one of the events and “stunts” we are planning in the run-up to the SNP’s “Special Conference” in Edinburgh on 19 March.
Please help, if you can! We have:
- Reached well over 520,000 people with our website and newsletter that goes to all of Scotland’s pro-UK MSPs, MPs and organisations.
- Been featured by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
- Have run a ‘Holyrood 2021’ campaign that reached over 1 million people.
- Have been in the national and local press, numerous times.
- Been interviewed by the German TV Channel ARTE.
It is a Scottish tragedy that we are afflicted with the most anti-business government in the Western world. The SNP is doing all in its power to close down the North Sea with no one honest enough to concede that hydrocarbons will be essential for civilised life for decades to come and importing oil and gas generates twice the carbon footprint, at great extra cost compared with domestic supplies. The whisky industry enjoys worldwide recognition as the jewel in Scotland’s crown. It is worth £5.5bn annually. You might think the SNP would promote and support it but instead, they are doing the reverse by planning to clamp down on all advertising for whisky and related merchandise. Then there is the idiotic deposit return scheme for single-use bottles and cans. This will cause extra costs for relevant businesses, create a cross-border black market and increase carbon footprints compared with present council-run recycling schemes. It gets worse. The SNP intends to outlaw future drive-through restaurants simply to save on the petrol driving to them. Logic dictates this will eventually apply across the sector. Scottish businesses are subjected to the dead hand of the SNP. Would someone care to explain how they think an independent Scotland could survive economically? Dr Richard Marsh, Strathdon.
The hypocrisy of Nicola Sturgeon continues to astound me. She has intimated that she intends to intervene to prevent local authorities from making cuts in their education budgets (“Sturgeon confirms plans to block councils from cutting teacher numbers”, heraldscotland, January 26). Did I not hear howls of derision and affronts on democracy when Westminster interfered with her gender recognition proposals? On radio she defended her intervention on the grounds that her government gave councils money to be used for education and she expected them to do just that. Is it not the case that independence supporters gave her party £600,000 to spend on the independence cause which has since been spent on other things? Is this the same Nicola Sturgeon who wants criminal sentences on under-25s to be lighter because their brains are not fully developed but wants 16-year-olds to determine their gender and vote in a referendum? Duncan Sooman.
Nicola Sturgeon has said she hopes to write her memoir when she finally, and not before time, steps down from her Holyrood throne. If it is as heavily redacted as the guff the SNP produces for official inquiries, it should take all of ten minutes to read it. Ian Balloch, Grangemouth, Stirlingshire.
