The SNP-led Scottish Government has come under-fire after it was revealed they spent £11k of taxpayers cash on a lavish St Andrew’s Day party for EU bureaucrats in Brussels.

It was an event attended by culture minister Neil Gray and a number of foreign ambassadors to the EU and hosted at one of their dubbed “foreign embassies” at Scotland House Brussels.

But the spend on the event, £11,077.81, has been criticised by opposition parties who urged them to prove how that cost benefits the people of Scotland, especially during a cost of living crisis.

The majority of the cost went on catering, while significant sums were also spent on performers travelling, fee and accommodation and technical equipment.

Scottish Tory MSP Sharon Dowey told the Scottish Daily Express: “Spending over £11,000 on this St Andrew’s Day celebration away from Scotland sums up how skewed the SNP’s priorities are.
