Fewer pupils from poorer backgrounds are getting into university in Scotland, figures show – Morning Star

Fewer pupils from poorer backgrounds are getting into university in Scotland.

University admissions service Ucas says the gap between the number of students from the most deprived backgrounds and those from wealthier backgrounds has increased by 50 per cent since 2018.

Of students from wealthier backgrounds applying for a university place, 78.3 per cent were accepted, up from 75.1 per cent five years ago.

But the equivalent figure for students from the most deprived backgrounds applying, only 69 per cent were given a place, up 0.1 per cent from five years previously.
