The Scottish Government spent thousands of pounds translating one consultation into both Scots and Gaelic despite the majority of speakers of both languages being able to speak English.
In new figures published by the SNP-led government, it was revealed that they spent more than £5,000 on developing the Scottish Government Commitments to Gaelic and Scots and a Scottish Languages Bill consultation.
It is available on their website in three different languages to reflect the questions which were asked within the paper. It is gathering thoughts on how they should go about getting more people in country to speak the two languages.
The figures revealed that they spent £1,201.49 on the English version of the consultation on formatting, £1,326 on the Gaelic version (formatting £1,142.93 and proof reading £183.07) and a staggering £2,877.37 on the Scots version (formatting £1,117.37 and translation £1,760).
In addition to these costs, printed copies of it has cost the taxpayer a further £519.91. It launched on August 24 and on November 8 it has been filled in just 352 times.
