Teachers at a school in Glasgow will take strike action this month due to the violent behaviour of pupils and a lack of support by the SNP-led council.

Members of the NASUWT teaching union at Bannerman High School in Ballieston claimed that their employer has failed to protect them from abuse by pupils.

They revealed that they had been involved in a number of shocking incidents including:

  • Brandishing a screwdriver and causing damage to the building
  • Refusal to obey instructions
  • Shouting, swearing and issuing verbal threats to assault members of staff
  • Physically shoving and shouting at teachers and other staff
  • Blocking fire exits
  • Theft of property
  • Intimidating staff and pupils in communal areas
