A health chief has promised to take action after reports emerged of huge queues of ambulances outside the north-east’s busiest A&E department.

It was reported that lines of 10 ambulances formed outside Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Monday as NHS Grampian issued a warning for people not to visit A&E unless their condition was ‘life-threatening’.

Similar cautions have been sent out by the health board in recent months as the embattled hospital continues to struggle with the volume of patients coming through its doors.

One such warning was delivered after bosses were forced to send out an appeal urging off-duty workers to help deal with three major incidents as massive queues were spotted at the front door and ambulances waited for hours outside.
