An industry insider has revealed that Lorna Slater’s Deposit Return Scheme legislation is “complete b******s” and based on bad analysis using bad data.

The industry insider slammed the Scottish Government for pushing ahead with the failed recycling scheme, claiming the government’s analysis and data for the scheme was “bad” and based on out of date information.

The insider also hit out at Circularity Scotland for failing to take a stand against the government, claiming the group informed the government its plans for recycling glass was “impossible” but still pushed ahead.

The industry source took part in the cross-party MSP group’s inquiry into the Scottish Government’s recycling scheme.

The MSPs report came to the conclusion the Scottish Government needed to issue an urgent review into Ms Slater’s prized deposit return scheme.

Circularity Scotland is supposed to be the body that represents the trade but the insider claimed the body had gone “native” and “abandoned” the industry.

The source also claimed that there was no trade representation in the process anymore representing the concerns of businesses.

They said: “That’s part of the problem. First of all, how did we end up with such demonstrably bad environmental policy? This is not an implementation.

“The problem with the scheme is it doesn’t work. It doesn’t generate net environmental benefits.
